Monsieur Heron - 01

Monsieur Heron - 01

View On Black Yesterday and today, i decided to go to Rattlesnake lake with my little family. It was extremely surprising to see the difference between today and the previous day. Yesterday the lake was empty and frozen. no birds in sight at the beginning, but around 4pm, a flock of geese landed in the middle of the lake, on the ice. it was amazing. i haven't processed the shot yet, but will do it soon. an amazing pink sunset with geeze wings open, landing on a frozen lake. it was something i was not going to miss. The issue is, i still am having trouble processing shots that have a majority of pink and magenta tones. i'm working on it. Today, i convinced my wife to give it a shot once again. i say "convince" for a good reason: we have three kids, and moving them around is fun, but it can be extremely exhausting, especially with a one year old in a backpack! but i knew it was going to snow, and they would have loved it. when we arrived at the lake, it was snowing indeed. just. and things started getting pretty white fast. the only animal out there was mister Heron. a heron gently walking around on the frozen lake covering with snow. i call him mister heron because he was kinda classy, avoiding muddy areas, and looking carefully where to walk. i had my baby girl on my back, and decided to leave the 100-400 L in the car as i already had enough weight. i chose the 70-200 f4 L instead, and kept it all along. every time i was getting too close, mister heron was taking off and going further. i followed him, one flight after the other, until he got fed up and went to the other side of the lake. but i managed to get quite a few good shots! this photo is the first of a serie. he certainly deserves it! 70-200 f4 L note: Since it was snowing like crazy, i started worrying about my 70-200, and grabbed a plastic bag to cover it. i can tell you ... looking at a viewfinder located behind a plastic bag hole, is a pain!
